Doom Eternal is one of the most anticipated games of 2020 developed by id software and published by Bethesda Softworks. If you’ve played Doom games before, the game is constantly elbowing you in the ribs about it. This is what die-hard fans of the franchise are after, violence is part of the Doom DNA. We will be testing Doom Eternal on different video-cards that are available in the Market and we will show you how well this game performs across a variety of graphics cards, resolutions and image quality settings. Doom Eternal uses the new advanced id Tech 7 engine and unlike Doom 2016, Doom Eternal is only using Vulkan API. There are no options to select OpenGL. For those of you out of the loop, Vulkan is the successor to OpenGL, offering an open-source alternative to Microsoft’s DirectX API.
Settings:
There are 6-graphical presets that you can choose from Low to the ‘Ultra Nightmare’ however there are strict limitations on the V-RAM that you can’t just override. There is a sad part, GPU that has lower video memory than the 8GB cannot run Ultra-Nightmare settings. We decided to break up our testings into two sections such as video cards equipped with 8GB of video ram will be tested on ‘Ultra Nightmare’ and video cards with lower than 8GB will be tested at ‘Ultra’ preset. We couldn’t run ‘Ultra Nightmare’ on one of our GPU RTX 2060 because of the VRAM limitations because this game has 6GB of video-memory. It’s a shame you cannot run at maximum settings on a very-decent mid-end video-card RTX 2060.

Ultra Settings:
Doom is surprisingly easy going at 1080p, for the smooth game play at-least 60 frames are required and our low end RX 580 showing strong performance here managing up to 100 FPS at Ultra-Setting for the folks with high-refresh monitor you would require at least RTX 2060 or VEGA 56 to run this game at the pure madness 144 FPS. For the 4K you will need RX 5700 XT as minimum.
Ultra ‘Nightmare Settings:
Turning it to Ultra ‘Nightmare most of these video-cards performances are dropped by 4% to 10%. However in the image quality we haven’t seen quite of any difference. 8GB VRAM on RX 580 has become useful in this particular title.
Wrap Up
It seems the optimizations from Doom 2016 have indeed carried over, id Software has done a good job of not just making Doom look great, but also play well on a range of hardware. It runs way better than the recommended system requirements. Bethesda Suggested RTX 2080Ti for the 4K 60 at Ultra Nightmare settings but in our tests RTX 2080 maintaining the solid average FPS up-to 60 FPS at the 4K at the maximum settings, also the good news for low-end PC users, those rocking a $180 (25K PKR) GPU RX 580 won’t have anything to worry about. It gives you the solid 60 FPS smooth experience at maxed-out settings at 2K. Anyone with a 144Hz display will almost certainly appreciate higher frame rates and Thank you Games and Geeks for Sponsoring this Review!
