Death Stranding 2 is the game that Hideo Kojima had been teasing for months and finally presented it at the 2022 Game Awards.

The trailer above was one of, if not the, longest of The Game Awards, and it’s filled with cryptic scenes that will have fans debating its significance for weeks to come. In the months building up to this unveiling, we’ve been treated to teasers introducing several actresses who will appear in Death Stranding 2, including Elle Fanning. In the trailer, we didn’t see much of the new cast, but we did glimpse a new masked man strumming a guitar, who could be played by legendary videogame voice actor Troy Baker. He looks a lot like Kojima’s Doof Warrior from Mad Max: Fury Road. Sam Porter Bridges and Fragile, as played by Norman Reedus and Lea Seydoux, have been confirmed to return for the sequel.
Though the teaser focuses on Fragile, one dialogue between Fragile and Sam near the end hints we’ll be jumping back into Sam Porter Bridges’ shoes: “It’s time for you to hit the road and begin a new trip.”
Hideo Kojima, who took the stage following the Death Stranding 2 trailer, stated that he had actually prepared the scenario for this sequel prior to the Covid-19 epidemic… and then rewrote it after the pandemic hit. “I didn’t want to prophesy any more futures,” he joked through a translator.
Along with Death Stranding 2, Kojima indicated another project in the works, which is supposedly more experimental than what was already one of the more distinctive open world games of the past decade.
