AMD Navi and Ryzen 5/7/9 Performance & Price Unveiled

A large part of AMD’s E3 announcedments was outlined at Computex, much of which was about highlighting their new 7nm manufacturing process. While the release dates of the new Ryzen CPUs was confirmed, details on Navi were not given. Lisa Su also announced that Sony and Xbox would be utilizing AMD’s 7nm architecture in their new consoles.
The main-stay of the conference was PC though, as the new CPUs and GPUs were unveiled shortly after. For the CPU half, AMD showed a live demo of CS:GO running at 1440p. Since players require extremely high frame rates in this e-sports title, it proves an ideal candidate for showing CPU performance. The 3600X was pit against the i5-9600K, with both CPUs having comparable frame rates ranging from 260 to 280fps. While it was evident that the 9600K had slightly higher frames in certain sections, AMD’s SKU offers relatively the same level of performance while having double the amount of threads; allowing more accommodation for non-gaming workloads.
Something that was rather completely new was the announcement of Navi. The Radeon RX 5700 series, currently the only GPU to utilise PCI Express 4.0, was showcased. Featuring 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM and base/boost clocks of 1605 MHz/1905 MHz respectively, the card is going to be launching in two versions. The 5700, which is going to be competing with the RTX 2060 ($359 MSRP), is priced at $US379 internationally. The 5700 XT GPU on the other hand, is the flagship option, priced at $US449 to compete with the RTX 2070 ($499 MSRP). The GPUs are set to launch worldwide on July 7, although local availability is expected to be a few weeks earlier.
A slide of performance figures was shown with 1440p benchmarks of the RX 5700 XT against the RTX 2070. A similar slide was highlighted of the RX 5700 against the RTX 2060, with the “best” results for the 5700 base card apparently 10% better (on average). The accuracy of these figures has yet to be confirmed by independent reviewers, however.
