If you saw your Ryzen CPU overclocking by itself over the past few days, you weren’t dreaming at all. According to AMD, there is a bug in the latest GPU drivers that is altering the settings of Ryzen CPUs; thus, causing them to overclock automatically.
The issue was brought to limelight on Reddit when multiple users started to report the same problem of their CPUs overclocking and upon troubleshooting this was linked to the latest install of AMD GPU drivers.
“We are aware of an issue in the AMD software suite that is adjusting certain AMD processor settings for some users. We are investigating the issue and we’ll share more information as soon as we’re able.” Representative from AMD.
While this isn’t going to kill your Ryzen CPU as AMD has built in protective measures that stop it from frying itself but if its something that is bothering you, a simple fix can be used by installing Radeon Software Slimmer and deleting the Ryzen Master SDK from the GPU driver. As this is a 3rd party software, please proceed at your own risk since this isn’t an official fix by AMD.
However, do note that this isn’t affecting those with an Intel CPU or those with an Nvidia GPU obviously. If you have a Ryzen combo only then you should be on the lookout for this issue.
